A 1-year-old boy drowned Monday evening when his 23 year-old drunken father drove an off-road vehicle into a river near Hesperia.

The Suzuki Samurai plunged into the Mojave River around 9:30 p.m. and quickly sank in the water which was around 9 feet high. The father and a 19-year-old passenger were able to escape but they were unable to free the 16-month-old out of its car seat. The dive team of the San Bernardino County Sheriffs department recovered the child’s body several hours later.

The father was booked for investigation of driving under the influence and manslaughter.

5 people were injured when a gray Ford Explorer veered onto a sidewalk last week. The collision occurred in San Francisco around 9:30 a.m. in the Visitacion Valley Neighborhood. The injured were standing in a recessed area on the sidewalk waiting for a bus and seeking shade from the sun.

The SUV was traveling on San Bruno Avenue downhill, the driver lost control of the steering and brakes and veered onto the sidewalk and hit a recessed area of an apartment building. The injured happened to be standing in the recessed area at the time.

The five victims were transported to the San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of their injuries, leaving two in critical condition, and three in serious condition. Four of the five suffered from bone fractures.

The 24-year-old driver of the SUV was apparently driving without a valid drivers license. The driver has been cited and released.

A full investigation into the accident is currently underway.

3 people were tragically killed Sunday morning after the stolen car which they were riding in crashed into a concrete sign. The accident was caused when the driver of the stolen Ford Mustang lost control of the car after colliding with another car that they were street racing against. A fourth male passenger was hospitalized in critical condition.

The 18-year-old driver, a 32-year-old woman and another female were found dead at the scene. The two 17-year-old boys in the other car, a Taurus, escaped without major injuries. The two teens were arrested for fleeing the scene of the accident.

Police said the accident occurred just after midnight Sunday on Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach when the two cars collided while racing, sending the Mustang spinning out of control into a concrete sign in the median.

The car was found to have been stolen and the driver did not have a license.

The cause of Dr. Frank Ryan’s accident hasn’t been officially determined, but texting while driving was a factor.

Ryan was sending a Twitter message about his dog just before his tragic car accident.

“He lived up in Malibu on a tiny street and he was texting while driving and he accidentally went over the cliff,” says Charmaine Blake, Ryan’s ex-girlfriend. The border collie was in the car at the time of the crash and survived injuries to the paw, eye and head. Ryan posted a picture of his dog overlooking the ocean before the crash.

The California Highway Patrol confirms Ryan was texting before the crash, but investigators have not officially determined the cause of the accident.

According to the CHP, Ryan’s 1995 Jeep Wrangler went over the side of Pacific Coast Highway and landed on the rocks below on August 17th at around 4:30 p.m. Ryan was trapped in the vehicle and had incurred major head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is being performed.

The LAPD hopes to find the good Samaritans who rescued a 69-year-old man from a burning car after a collision Sunday. The LAPD began searching for the men after an amateur video from the scene was released on Monday.

The dramatic video captured seconds after a rear-end collision shows a vintage automobile with the unconscious driver trapped inside. Witnesses rushed to car with a crowbar and a fire extinguisher. They were able to keep the fire away from the driver as they frantically worked to free him. The 1932 Ford Model A (possibly a Model B) was rear-ended by a Hyundai traveling approximately 40 mph. It was then pushed into an oncoming Ford Expedition, after which the car burst into flames and came to a stop. The video picks up moments later with the good Samaritans rushing to the aid of the 69-year-old driver, despite the danger from the intense heat and flames.

Authorities stated, “The rescuers disappeared as quickly as they appeared and they hope to find the good Samaritans who were captured on the amateur video saving this man’s life.” Sergeant Beilski said today, “They still have not located any of the men involved, he expected the police department would wait till they found all of the men who worked to save the driver’s and honor them together at one time.” Beilski said, “Detective Bustos will issue more information as soon as it’s available, on the identities of the parties involved.” “It could have been much worse if it wasn’t for them,” said Officer Jose Garcia of the LAPD, when asked about the collision. “The LAPD has received hundred’s of inquires on this accident, including one from France,” said police department spokeswoman, Officer O’Brien. Patrick Murray, who filmed the video and lives in an apartment near the intersection, said that he heard a loud boom and felt the building shake.

The driver was eventually pulled from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. A police spokesman said, “Two women and two children, ages 6 and 9, were also treated at local hospitals for minor injuries but nobody was seriously injured in the multiple car accident.”

LAPD and LAFD officials say the good Samaritans should be recognized. They hope to reunite the victim with his rescuers, who left the scene without giving their names. “Nobody knows who they are,” Murray said. “I think they should be commended, because without a doubt they were risking their lives.”

Hundreds of fans were present at the California 200 race Saturday night which took place in the Mojave Desert. Many watched in horror as a driver lost control of his truck after taking a jump, rolling his truck into the crowd. The result: eight people killed and twelve injured.

According to the San Bernardino County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Cindy Bachman the horrific crash came soon after the beginning of the race. Due to the remote location of the race, rescue vehicles and helicopters took over thirty minutes to reach the accident scene. Spectators and off-duty fire fighters helped those who were injured as best they could. Six people were dead at the scene and two more died at the hospital. Twelve others were airlifted to the Loma Linda University Medical Center or St. Mary’s Medical Center.

A photographer who was covering the race gave his account, “There was dust everywhere, people screaming, people running. When I got up to the vehicle I could tell that several people were trapped. There were just bodies everywhere,” he said. “One woman with a major head wound (was) lying in a pool of blood. Someone else was crushed beneath the car.”

The truck landed upside down, where members of the crowd rushed to flip it over, and help anyone who might be pinned beneath it. The driver was unharmed from the accident but reportedly had to flee the scene to escape from angry spectators.

In a report from ‘The Associated Press’, the CHP named the driver of the truck as 28 year old Brett M Sloppy of San Marcos. Reportedly there was no alcohol involved in the crash, and charges will not be filed since the race was a sanctioned event. The CHP estimated Sloppy’s speed to be 45 to 50 miles per hour at the time of the accident.

Six people still remain in the hospital with several of them in critical condition — more than a day after a three-car crash near Bishop that killed three people, including a former Corona del Mar High School cheerleading coach.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the Monday night crash on Highway 395 that sent a southbound SUV out of control and tumbling into traffic on the other side.

Wendy Rice, 35, who coached the cheer squad at Corona del Mar High School, was driving northbound on the highway in a van that collided with the SUV. Rice was killed along with two people in the SUV, which caught fire, California Highway Patrol officials said.
